The Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O Seoul Edition is a duty-free exclusive product that combines the famous cleanser formula and cute packaging representing the South Korean capital.
As you can see in the picture, both the bottle and the outer carton are thoroughly decorated with drawings depicting “the breathtaking sights of Seoul”, according to the brand.
The 450ml product retail on board Korean Air flights for $69, and at Shinsegae Duty Free for $73 – in theory it shouldn’t be available outside Korea but a quick Google search tells me otherwise!

Today’s featured product is the gorgeous Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil Advanced Formula Designed by Lisa, a new collaboration between the Japanese makeup brand and artist Lisa Kohno, the first winner of the Shu Uemura Art Award (I wrote about a previous partnership here). This beauty is exclusive to Korean Airlines so unless you’re flying with the carrier soon (or know someone who is), you won’t be able to purchase it!
This limited-edition 450ml bottle is currently available and retails on board for $70 or €52. Click on the image for a larger version.
The new travel-exclusive product by Shu Uemura (and an Asia-exclusive too, I suspect) is a kit containing four small bottles of its popular cleansing oils. The Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Travel Set comes with one 50ml bottle of each of the following products: High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil Advanced Formula (the reformulated version of the classic cleanser),White Recovery Ex+ Brightening Cleansing Oil (created specifically for the Asian market), Fresh High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil (for combination/oily skin) and Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O (with antioxidants).
All products use natural extracts such as cherry flower, green tea, prune extract and camellia flower. The set is priced at S$58 (about $47 in today’s exchange rates) on board Singapore Airlines flights.
Japanese brand Shu Uemura has recently reformulated its unique lightweight makeup primer, the UV Under Base Mousse. The supplier claims its texture is “20 times lighter than normal liquid or cream makeup base”, which should make it ideal for those of us with oily skin.
While the base itself is not exclusive to duty-free, the Shu Uemura Duo UV Under Base Mousse set, which includes two vials of the primer in Beige, can only be found in travel-retail (and it’s a fairly new release too). As you would expect from the Asian brand, in addition to its smoothing properties the base also offers high UV protection of SPF 30 PA+++.
According to the brand, these are the product’s features:
- Improved makeup staying power
- Improved colour vibrancy
- Provides SPF protection against harmful UV rays
- Unique ultra-light mousse texture
I haven’t tried this primer yet, but I know many people use Shu’s high-protection sunscreen as a primer – surely this one must be as good as or even better? The only thing this set isn’t is cheap: it retails on board Singapore Airlines for S$115, which in today’s rates corresponds to more than $80. In the UK each bottle sells for £28 (around $40), so you won’t be making a massive saving – however, it is still worth it if you can’t find the primer in your local market.
Japanese brand Shu Uemura has collaborated with artist Lisa Kohno, the first winner of the Shu Uemura Art Award, to crate a limited edition of its best-selling cleansing oil design exclusive for travel-retail. Inspired by the art of travel, the new Shu Uemura Skin Purifier is available exclusively at duty-free locations in the Asia/Pacific region with a supercute packaging/bottle.
This is what the supplier has to say:
The young Japanese artist’s design expresses a fantasy dream world that she describes as ‘a utopia in the sky’; it is a fantasy world where hearty-butterfly and fairy-flowers are guiding travellers to a destination of wonders. The imaginative motifs of flying hearts and butterfly flowers create a beautiful scene on the golden oil, which gives a happy energy to the bottle.
How gorgeous is that?
Japanese cosmetics brand Shu Uemura is known for the quality of its makeup brushes, so if you are looking for a suitcase-friendly collection of tools this might be what you are looking for. The Shu Uemura Travel Brush Set contains four essential brushes – two for face/cheeks prosucts, one for eyeshadow and a liner brush that can be used both for lips and eyes – packed in a black carrying case (even though it looks blue in the picture!).
Although I haven’t tested this particular set, previous Shu travel sets have mirrored the quality of the brand’s full-sized brushes. At around $70 for the kit, this is not exactly a bargain, but good makeup applicators are usually worth the price tag.
As far as I know this set is only available in Asian travel-retail and airlines including Singapore Airlines, so please give me a shout if you see it elsewhere!
While US lovers of Shu Uemura makeup will be lamenting the brand’s decision to exit the domestic market in the country, the good news is that the brand is still widely available for travelling fans, especially if you’re planning a trip to Asia. An added bonus for those with a trip planned soon is the Shu Uemura Art of Travel palette, a gorgeous set exclusive to Asian travel-retail and duty-free shops.
This cute palette comes with five eyeshadows ranging from soft pink to sparkling black, a pink blush an applicators. The compact also features a large blush to make applying makeup on the go easier.
The supplier said the new palette, which is currently available and carries a suggested retail price of $55, “reflects Shu Uemura’s artistry with makeup essentials” and is “as precious and sophisticated as the woman it has been conceived for”.
