L’Occitane Sweet Hearts Perfume Set

with 2 comments

The L’Occitane Sweet Hearts Perfume Set was designed as something you could buy for yourself and as gifts from friends. It comes with four heart-shaped solid fragrances from the brand’s range of Provençal flower scents: Rose 4 Reines (two pots), Cherry Blossom and the new Fleur Cherie.

You can find full descriptions of each of the fragrances on the L’Occitane website. I’m afraid there isn’t much more information about this set that I can share with you, but it costs S$55 (around $45) on board Singapore Airlines flights.

Maybelline Sexto Volum’Express Turbo Boost Waterproof

without comments

Maybelline Sexto Volum'Express Turbo Boost Waterproof setSometimes duty-free sets offer incredible value against similar or individual products in domestic markets. However, at other times that doesn’t seem to be the case at all. This could be the case with the Maybelline Sexto Volum’Express Turbo Boost Waterproof kit, which comes with six tubes of the homonymous mascara from the US brand, if you consider the US price only, but in the interest of fairness we have to compare its price with what the product costs in its local market.

According to the supplier, the box offers two of the mascaras free, but the set is priced at S$59 (roughly $47) on Singapore Airlines’ inflight catalogue – considering the mascara retails in the US for about $6 each, you might think this is a rip-off. The brand’s Volum’Express Turbo Boost Waterproof mascaras costs S$16.90 each in Singapore, though, so for local customers the kit does offer good value for money.

Here’s the lesson for the day, ladies: duty-free exclusives can be a bargain for customers from some countries but not others, so it’s always worth checking against your domestic prices before buying. Click on the image for a better view of the set.

Clinique Happy, Happier, Happiest

with one comment

Clinique is launching this month in duty-free a trio of fragrances including the best-selling Happy and two variations of the scent. The Clinique Happy, Happier, Happiest set features a bottle each of Clinique Happy, Clinique Happy Heart and Clinique Happy In Bloom.

Happy has notes of grapefruit, boysenberry bush flower, Hawaiian wedding flower and spring mimosa, while Happy Heart is described as a “rich floral version”, with water hyacinth and mandarin. Finally, Happy In Bloom is a fruity floral scent with a decorated bottle featuring a seasonal floral pattern.

The supplier has not revealed the price for this set but I’ll update this post as soon as I find in in a duty-free store. Edit: reader Diana bought it for £40! :)

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Trio

without comments

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine TrioWhile travelling in the US I spotted some Chanel travel-retail sets that I hadn’t seen before – certainly not in Europe, at least. The display included several products, but I’ll start with the most topical, the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Trio.

This nifty set comes with one each of the new Chanel lipstick formula in Liberté (46), Boy (54 and one of the most popular shades) and Adventure (57).

According to the supplier, this hydrating lip formula creates “amazing natural shine” on your lips, although I have read reviews complaining about their staying power. I haven’t tried them myself, so can’t comment on that.

At San Francisco International airport, where I saw these, the sets retail for $87 – possibly not such a good deal for Americans but certainly a decent saving for British and other European travellers. Rouge Coco Shines sell for £22.50 (roughly $36) each in the UK, so you could save around $20 by purchasing the set instead of three individual shades!

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Eye Kit

without comments

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Eye KitBobbi Brown fans, take heed! The brand has just announced a handy travel-exclusive set with all the tools to create a simple but elegant eye look.

The Long Wear Eye Kit comes with four items: a Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Sandy Gold, a Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Espresso (a perennial favourite), a duel-ended brush to apply both products and a practical 30ml bottle of Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover. The only thing missing is a makeup bag, but we’ll forgive Bobbi for that ommission.

I’ll update this post with pricing info as and when I have it. The kit is available from February at duty-free stores worldwide.

SK-II Pitera Passion kit

with one comment

High-end skincare brand SK-II only does duty-free exclusives at Singapore Changi airport, due to the passenger profile at the location (lots of Asians travelling through there) and its relationship with the beauty retailer at Changi. This year, the two companies have partnered to launch only their second exclusive product, and it’s a big one.

The SK-II  Pitera Passion kit features some of the brand’s best-selling products including a 250ml bottle of Facial Treatment Essence, a 80g pot of Skin Signature Cream, a 20g Facial Treatment Cleanser, a 20ml Facial Treatment Clear Lotion, a 15ml vial of Facial Treatment Repair C, one Signs Eye Mask, two Skin Signature 3D Redefining Masks and a limited-edition silk scarf.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? I hope you are sitting down though as the price for all of this is, understandably, quite steep: the kit retail for S$396 (about $300), a tidy sum. It is a good deal if you’re a fan of the brand, though, as SK-II products are individually quite expensive already.

Bourjois Smoky Essentials set

without comments

Bourjois Smoky Essentials setBourjois Paris has created two new sets for the spring/summer 2011 season that will be available exclusively on board airlines (mostly in Europe as far as I know), and since I have been away for a while I have decided to give you a sneak preview of what’s coming up!

The first of these is the Bourjois Smoky Essentials set, a gift box containing a Smoky Eyes trio eyeshadow in Mordoré Chic (03), a tube of Volume Glamour Ultra Black mascara and an Effet Smoky eyeliner pencil in Smoked Brown (71). In addition, the set also includes a free mini-lipgloss.

The set’s also boasts a 20% saving compared with high-street prices, which means the actual cost will vary according to each country’s prices. Sounds like a good deal, especially considering that Bourjois isn’t an expensive brand – at least not in the UK!

I will try to review it as soon as it becomes available, which should be early next year. Click on the image for a larger version.

L’Occitane Paeonia Beauty Travel Set

without comments

French beauty brand L’Occitane has a tradition of launching great sets that are exclusive to duty-free shops and airlines (such as the best-selling Happy Hands Kit, which includes some of their customers’ favourite hand creams), and they are usually great value for money. The latest one, L’Occitane Paeonia Beauty Travel Set, is no exception.

This kit includes several products from the company’s new Peony range, including a 10ml roll-on of the eau de toilette, a 15ml scented lip balm “to protect tender lips” (very useful on long-haul flights!) and 75ml bottles of the shower cream and body milk. Notice that all products come in packaging smaller than 100ml to comply with current liquid security limits at airports – this way you are guaranteed to get your products through in your carry-on luggage if necessary.

L’Occitane’s Paeonia Beauty Travel Set retails for about $50 on board Singapore Airlines flights – it could be cheaper elsewhere.

Clarins Instant Light Kit

without comments

Clarins Instant Light KitPart of the Travel@Clarins range of duty-free exclusives, the Clarins Instant Light Kit includes a 30ml tube of the brand’s Instant Light Complexion Perfector in shade 00, a product that combines the effects of a primer and a highlighter to leave skin beautifully glowy; an Instant Light Perfecting Touch pen in shade 02, Clarins’ version of Touche Eclat or other similar highlighting pens; and a free 5ml sample pot of Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch, a silicon-based primer that compared well against the best available in the market and is great if your skin doesn’t have problems with ‘cones’.

I bought this set at London Gatwick airport, where Clarins has a dedicated travel-retail boutique, and while I don’t remember exactly how much I paid, I’m sure it was something around £25 (about $38 in today’s exchange rates) – a real bargain considering what you get in the kit.

Click on the picture below for a larger version of the set’s contents, or on the picture on the right for the packaging.

Shu Uemura Travel Brush Set

without comments

Shu Uemura Travel Brush SetJapanese cosmetics brand Shu Uemura is known for the quality of its makeup brushes, so if you are looking for a suitcase-friendly collection of tools this might be what you are looking for. The Shu Uemura Travel Brush Set contains four essential brushes – two for face/cheeks prosucts, one for eyeshadow and a liner brush that can be used both for lips and eyes – packed in a black carrying case (even though it looks blue in the picture!).

Although I haven’t tested this particular set, previous Shu travel sets have mirrored the quality of the brand’s full-sized brushes. At around $70 for the kit, this is not exactly a bargain, but good makeup applicators are usually worth the price tag.

As far as I know this set is only available in Asian travel-retail and airlines including Singapore Airlines, so please give me a shout if you see it elsewhere!
