On location: MAC pop-up shop at Singapore Changi airport

without comments

Just in time for the holidays, MAC Cosmetics has opened a pop-up shop at Singapore Changi airport’s budget terminal, which serves mostly Asian low-cost carriers and regional flights.

The 25sq m space is staffed by MAC makeup artists who will demonstrate techniques, assist consumers in discovering new products and provide expert information on international beauty trends.

The temporary store will be available at the location for six to nine months, according to MAC, and was opened in partnership with the airport company and beauty retailer Nuance-Watson Singapore. MAC also said the pop-up project was in response to increasing international demand for the brand.

While I haven’t seen the store in person (and have never visited the budget terminal at Changi as I usually fly there from London), the shop looks good from the pictures I was sent. Do leave a comment if you visit it during your travels!

MAC Look in a Box: Girl Next Door

without comments

MAC Look in a Box: Girl Next DoorAlthough you will be unlikely to find this and the other Look in a Box sets at airport stores as they are mostly sold out, as these seem to be available on MAC’s websites in the US and the UK I decided pictures and swatches may yet be helpful to someone.

Today’s set is MAC Look in a Box: Girl Next Door. Like A Very Stylish Girl, It comes with two eyeshadows (the incredibly popular Smoke & Shadows and Grand Entrance, first seen in the Starflash collection), a Cremesheen Glass (Deelight), a tube of Zoom Lash mascara (Zoomblack) and an Iridescent Pressed Powder in Belightful. It originally retailed in UK duty-free for £25.75, cheaper than the other two sets and amazing value.

The curious thing is that even those the eyeshadows in this set were originally available in the starflash formula, the ones in the box are described as frost shades. It doesn’t seem to affect their performance, though – like the original starflash colours, these swatched beautifully.

Click on the pictures for larger versions. I didn’t swatch the mascara as it’s part of MAC’s permanent range. From left to right, the swatches are for Grand Entrance, Smoke & Diamonds, Belightful and Deelight.

MAC Look in a Box: A Very Stylish Girl

MAC Look in a Box: A Very Stylish Girl Although you will be unlikely to find this and the other Look in a Box sets at airport stores as they are mostly sold out, as these seem to be available on MAC’s websites in the US and the UK I decided pictures and swatches may yet be helpful to someone.

I’ll start with MAC Look in a Box: A Very Stylish Girl. It comes with two eyeshadows (Dreammaker and Glamour Check!, first seen in the Starflash collection), a Cremesheen Glass (Looks Like Sin), a tube of Zoom Lash mascara (Zoomblack) and a Bronzing Powder (Refined Golden). It originally retailed in UK duty-free for £27.75, great value if you consider the two eyeshadows alone would cost a little under that.

From left to right, the swatches are for Dreammaker, Glamour Check!, Refined Golden and Looks Like Sin.

MAC and Clinique BB creams get extended distribution

without comments

Clinique Age Defense BB Cream SPF 30/PA+++Right on the heels of the launch of Bobbi Brown’s first beauty balm (BB) cream, parent company Estée Lauder Companies has announced that its corresponding products for the MAC Cosmetics and Clinique ranges (Clinique Age Defense BB Cream SPF 30 PA+++, pictured) have gained extended distribution in duty-free and travel-retail.

The MAC BB cream (which is already available in some domestic markets too) can now be found at any duty-free shop that sells MAC products, while Clinique’s distribution is still fairly limited: in addition to Asian travel-retail locations, the product can now be purchased at London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt, Munich and Dubai International airports. It’s not a lot, I know, but at least now travellers going through Europe might be able to get their hands on this!

Swatches of both products can be found in this earlier post. Prices may vary according to the location, but the suggested retail price of MAC’s BB cream is $30.

MAC Packed to Go 6 Warm Smoky Eye Shadows

without comments

MAC Packed to Go 6 Warm Smoky Eye ShadowsI know it’s a bit late as this palette is nearly sold out, but it took me a long time to get my hands on the MAC Packed to Go 6 Warm Smoky Eye Shadows. In fact, I had to have it replaced three times (the boxes had the wrong palettes inside), and even then only managed to get one through the lovely ladies at Estée Lauder’s PR team.

The six colours in this lovely palette are Shroom (Satin), Naked Lunch (Frost), Tempting (Lustre), Greensmoke (Lustre), Stormy Love (Frost) and Showstopper (Matte). I am officially in love with Stormy Love and my pictures do not do it justice. As usual, this palette comes with a mini-brush (217SE).

All the pictures where taken with natural light, although the day was cloudy – click on any for a larger version. The picture on the left has swatches from the top row (Shroom, Naked Lunch, Tempting) and the last shot is of the bottom row (Greensmoke, Stormy Love, Showstopper). This palette retails for £25.50 (about $40 in today’s exchange rate) at UK airports.

MAC Packed to Go 6 Cool Smoky Eye Shadows

without comments

MAC Packed to Go 6 Cool Smoky Eye ShadowsIn addition to the three sets I mentioned earlier, the MAC Packed to Go collection also has two eyeshadow palettes that will only be available at duty-free shops. This is one of them, the MAC Packed to Go 6 Cool Smoky Eye Shadows.

Despite the name, I wouldn’t consider most of the shades in this palette cool. The six colours are Seedy Pearl, Satin Taupe, Tendersmoke, A Brown Suit, Beauty Marked and Carbon – the first four are frosts, Beauty Marked is a veluxe shade and Carbon is matte.

All the pictures where taken at night so the light is artificial – click on any for a larger version. The picture on the left has swatches from the top row (Seedy Pearl, Satin Taupe, Tendersmoke) and the last shot is of the bottom row (A Brown Suit, Beauty Marked, Carbon). I don’t know how much this palette costs but will try to find out as soon as possible.
