House of DKNY Coffret

without comments

Miniature perfume sets are a common fixture in duty-free shops around the world, and new ones come out every now and again to refreh the range. The latest addition is the House of DKNY Coffret, a travel-exclusive set containing four miniature fragrances: Be Delicious edp 7ml, Be Delicious Fresh Blossom edp 7ml, PureDKNY Verbena 7ml and the original DKNY Woman edt 4ml.

DKNY Woman comes in a skyscraper-inspired bottle while the two Be Delicious fragrances feature the iconic apple-shaped flacon. Finally, PureDKNY Verbena features a hybrid verbena-basil note and is one of the brand’s latest launches, created in partnership with charity organisation CARE.

This cute set comes in a cityscape packaging and will be available from February at duty-free locations worldwide.

On location: Chanel store at Moscow Sheremetyevo airport

Chanel beauty boutique at Moscow Sheremetyvo airportMost airports are lucky to have a full Chanel makeup counter in their general duty-free shops, but the Russians, those lovers of luxury, take it up a notch. The new terminal D at Moscow Sheremetyevo airport – which felt incredibly empty the two times I passed through late last year – has its own dedicated Chanel beauty boutique, offering a full range of cosmetics, skincare and fragrances to the discerning traveller.

I didn’t go in due to lack of time, but took this picture of the shop entrance – very posh and decorated for the Christmas season – where you can see the large TV screen showing the brand’s commercials and promotional videos. The interior decoration is also lavish, full of sleek black counters and beautiful displays showcasing the brand’s products in the best possible way. I don’t think I’ve seen such a luxurious airport presentation for a single brand before.

If you want an exclusive Chanel experience at an airport, head over to Moscow! Click on the picture to see a larger version.

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Bouquet Numéro 2

with 2 comments

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Bouquet Numéro 2Back in 2010, Guerlain launched its first fragrance in the Aqua Allegoria franchise exclusive to duty-free shops. Last year, the supplier expanded its travel-retail range with the launch of Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Bouquet Numéro 2, inspired by “exotic tropical gardens” and featuring notes of lychee, rose and powdery iris.

The company’s statement about the fragrance says:

Inspired by nature, created by Guerlain. Nature is an emotionally-charged setting where we gather treasures, which inspires and enfolds us. Every year, when springtime comes, the Guerlain perfumer conjures up gardens filled with scents, in a blend of allegory and exhilaration.

Prices for this edt, which comes in a 75ml bottle, vary according to location – the duty-free shops at Kiev airport sell it for €40 ($51), a similar price to the one charged on board Singapore Airlines flights (S$67, or just over $51).

DKNY Million Dollar fragrance bottle

without comments

Bling alert! Estée Lauder has partnered with celebrity jeweller Martin Katz to create a one-of-a-kind bejewelled bottle of its DKNY Golden Delicious fragrance, and discrete it ain’t. The handmade DKNY Million Dollar fragrance bottle is made of 18ct yellow gold with a rock crystal base, adorned with 2,000 stones sourced from all over the world including emeralds from Colombia, rubies and sapphires from Asia and precious stones from Brazil.

This is what bottle designer Katz had to say:

It was a privilege to design the Million Dollar DKNY fragrance bottle. Much like building a fragrance, my design started from a foundation. The Golden Delicious fragrance exemplifies the spirit and energy of New York so my bottle design needed to reflect this as well. I began the design process by handpicking unique stones from around the world to create the NYC skyline. The finished result was the most exquisite fragrance bottle in existence.

What is the link with duty-free, you might be asking? The unique bottle will be touring the world, stopping at events and fragrance stores in the US, Middle East, Asia and Europe, and the current stop is Dubai International airport terminal 3 (until October 15). If you’re passing through the terminal in the next few days, don’t forget to check it out!

L’Occitane Sweet Hearts Perfume Set

with 2 comments

The L’Occitane Sweet Hearts Perfume Set was designed as something you could buy for yourself and as gifts from friends. It comes with four heart-shaped solid fragrances from the brand’s range of Provençal flower scents: Rose 4 Reines (two pots), Cherry Blossom and the new Fleur Cherie.

You can find full descriptions of each of the fragrances on the L’Occitane website. I’m afraid there isn’t much more information about this set that I can share with you, but it costs S$55 (around $45) on board Singapore Airlines flights.

On location: London Heathrow airport T3

Paco Rabanne pop-up store at London Heathrow airport terminal 3Although this is not exactly breaking news, Paco Rabanne has recently launched a new ladies’ fragrance, Lady Million, inspired by the success of men’s scent 1 Million. London Heathrow airport’s retail operator World Duty Free hosted the global launch for the perfume earlier this year, and as part of the promotional efforts the retailer and the brand joined forces to create a pop-up store dedicated to the Paco Rabanne world.

The 32sq m outlet is still open and I managed to get a good glimpse of it while going through London Heathrow airport terminal 3 earlier this month. The shop offers the brand’s fragrances, watches and sunglasses and an engraving service for customers to customise their fragrance bottles in-store. A display with original Paco Rabanne dresses worth over €35,000 (more than $45,000) is also available.

Lady Million is now widely available in duty-free shops around Europe and should roll out to other regions soon, in case anyone’s looking to try out or purchase the fragrance.

On location: Stockholm Arlanda airport T5

without comments

Make Up Store counter at Stockholm Arlanda airport T5In my travels, I am constantly looking at airport duty-free shops – not only in search of bargains and products I can’t find anywhere else, but also to brands and items that are a bit different or with a local flavour.

One of my recent trips took me to Stockholm Arlanda airport’s new terminal 5, which features a ginormous duty-free store with plenty to look at. Among all the well-known international brands, however, I found a Swedish supplier featured in a prime location: Make Up Store. I already knew their products from their two stores in London (one on Carnaby St and another at the Westfield shopping centre) and believe their concept is similar to MAC’s – good-quality products in a wealth of shades and finishes with makeup artists in mind.

Their counter at Arlanda T5 is very comprehensive and includes all the products in the range, including tools. Interestingly, I found another Make Up Store unit offering brushes, sponges and other accessories in the main cosmetics area – the counter pictured is in the middle of the store, closer to the fragrances zone. They do offer a few scents as well, in case you were wondering.

I didn’t purchase anything (although I was tempted!) and haven’t tested the products, so I cannot vouch for their quality. However, if you are going through Stockholm airport and are looking for some local makeup, this is where you should go! As usual, click on the pictures to see a larger version.
