Estée Lauder Portable Makeup Brush Collection

with one comment

Estée Lauder Portable Makeup Brush CollectionThis holiday season has been busy with new launches in the duty-free world, and this is one of them. I hope to be able to post more regularly and bring you the other latest products soon!

Estée Lauder has launched this month a travel-exclusive Portable Makeup Brush Collection, featuring what it describes as four “essential travel-sized brushes inspired by global makeup artist-quality brushes”.

These include a foundation brush, a powder brush one for blush and another for eyeshadow, all presented in a blue mock-croc case with golden details, same as the brushes themselves.

Prices vary according to location and I haven’t been travelling recently so can’t update you on that yet, but will edit this post as and when I’m able to. For the same reason I can’t judge the quality of these brushes but imagine they’ll be similar to the ones in EL’s holiday blockbuster sets, which are OK.

As usual, click on the image for a larger version.

Estée Lauder Modern Chic face palette

with 2 comments

Estée Lauder has launched this month a new palette that can only be found at duty-free locations in Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Americas, and if this and other travel-retail exclusives are anything to go by, purples and violets are definitely the “in” shades this autumn/winter.

The Estée Lauder Modern Chic face palette features a blue patent leather-effect bag adorned with a branded charm, and it contains an all-over face brush, two eye applicators, four complimentary shades of Pure Color Eyeshadows (Ivory Slipper, Tranquil Moon, Iridescent Violet and Amethyst Spark), a Signature Blush in Pink Kiss and a face powder (Aeromatte Ultralucent Pressed Powder in Translucent).

The set also comes with a Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Natural Rose, a Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Black and a Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lenghtening Mascara in Black, the latter two in mini versions for ease of travel.

I don’t have the price for this set yet, but as I’ll soon be jetting off again I’ll update this post when I see it in-store!

Estée Lauder Limited Edition Colors Palette

without comments

Estée Lauder Limited Edition Colors PaletteEvery year Estée Lauder launches a new eye and lip palette exclusively in the duty-free channel. This is year is no exception, and the 2011 Estée Lauder Limited Edition Colors Palette reached travel-retail stores in August.

The new palette features the new Pure Color eyeshadow and lipstick formulas in five shades each and includes two applicators, one for the lips and another for the eyes.

The lip colors are (left to right): Candy (16), Beige (12), Fuchsia Fever (60), Cafe Chic (77) and Scarlet Siren (73). The eye shades are Sugar Cube (30), Polished Platinum (43), Enchanted Forest (71), Silver Ball (48) and Black Crystals (58).

Most colours on this palette are fairly neutral and should suit all skintones. Enchanted Forest is a lovely taupe-green shade and Scarlet Siren a perfect red lipstick. None of the eyeshadows are too shimmery or frosty.

I don’t know the price for this palette but will check as soon as I can. Click on the images for larger versions.

Estée Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer Travel Collection

with one comment

Estée Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer Travel CollectionDespite having a long name, the Estée Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer Travel Collection set is actually a wee little thing containing small bottles of nail polish (four of those, plus a top coat).

This see-through plastic case comes with five 5ml products: Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Berry Desire (04), Berry Hot (06), Tempting Melon (09), Nude Attitude (18) and a Instant Finish Quick Dry (01) top coat.

All four shades are nicely pigmented, even the light cream Nude Attitude. Berry Hot is slightly pearlescent while the other three are matte colours. Two coats seem to be ideal to showcase the shades properly, as you’ll see in the pictures below.

The first two pictures just show the polishes out of the packaging they come in, while the bottom two photos are for one coat (left) and two coats (right) or each of the four polishes for comparison. I am not sure how much this set retails for at airports, but it is a duty-free exclusive. I’ll update this post as and when I have the information.

Estée Lauder 3 Pure Color Lipsticks

with 2 comments

When Tom Pecheux took over as creative director of Estée Lauder, he breathed some much-needed fresh air into a brand that had a bit of an “old lady” stigma. One of the best things he introduced was a new formula to the beauty house’s signature golden lipsticks, the Pure Color range.

In travel-retail, the brand launched an exclusive set called Estée Lauder 3 Pure Color Lipsticks. It comes, as the name indicates, with a trio of products from the Pure Color collection: Pink Ambition (#52, in Europe called just Ambition), Bitten Fig (#59) and Nectarine (#26). Pink Ambition is a Creme formula, while the other two colours are Shimmer lipsticks.

Pure Color lipsticks are long-lasting and fairly moisturising. Each lipstick comes individually packaged in its own box, so if you don’t like/want any of the shades you can give it away as a gift.

Prices for the set vary, but in South Korea it retails for $69. As usual, click on the pictures for larger versions.

Estée Lauder Adventurous

without comments

A few years ago, Estée Lauder began launching fragrances that were exclusive to duty-free and travel-retail locations. These included Bali Dream and Brazil Dream, both inspired by the countries they were named after.

Now, the company has created a new travel-exclusive scent, and I can confess I am a fan. Estée Lauder Adventurous is a warm and juicy eau de parfum that includes notes of star jasmine, vertyver, red berries, caramel musk, African woods, ylang-ylang, mandarin, honey, lotus flower and heliotrope.

The bottle is simple but very pretty, a rectangular container topped by a gold metalised cap silkscreener in a shade of coral “reminiscent of the earth’s warmth”, according to the supplier. The advertising campaign and outer packaging are fronted by Estée Lauder spokesmodel Hilary Rhoda.

To me, Adventurous is quite a unique scent, and despite being an edp it works as a summer fragrance – I certainly will be wearing it a lot over the next few months!

Estée Lauder Limited Edition Colors Palette

without comments

Estee Lauder Limited Edition Colors PaletteEstée Lauder has launched exclusively in duty-free a new makeup palette featuring shades for the eyes and lips. The Estée Lauder Limited Edition Colors Palette has five lipsticks in the travel-exclusive Kissable Lipshine formula (02 Maui Kiss, 03, Catalina Kiss, 11 Casablanca Kiss, 15 Acapulco Kiss and 20 Monaco Kiss) and five Pure Color EyeShadows in the following shades: 09 Amethyst Spark, 26 Iridescent Violet, 30 Sugar Cube, 63 Tempting Mocha and 66 Candy Crave.

In addition the product has what the supplier describes as “a luxurious new pouch to hold two high-end lip and eye applicators”, which I assume are included.

As the name implies, this palette will only be available for a limited time period and can be found exclusively at Estée Lauder counters at selected airport locations from this month. I haven’t seen this in-store yet but as soon as I do I will update this post with regards to price.

BB cream comparison

with 4 comments

Estée Lauder were kind enough to send me the blemish balm creams (better known as BB creams) it has launched over the last year for three of its main brands. Given the opportunity, I decided to swatch them for comparison purposes – proper reviews will follow shortly!

The three products in question are Estée Lauder CyberWhite EX Extra Intensive BB Creme Multi-Action Formula SPF35 (which I first mentioned here), Clinique Age Defense BB Cream SPF 30 PA+++ and MAC Prep + Prime Beauty Balm UVA/UVB SPF 35 PA+++ (I have already written about this one too). All three are exclusive to duty-free and travel-retail outlets, although only the EL product highlights this fact on the packaging.

Clinique’s offering is the pinkest; EL’s, the most yellow-toned. All three blend well into the skin (for reference, I’m about NW15) and would suit fair ladies. Coverage also seems pretty decent for BB creams, and in my experience their consistency is also heavier/thicker – previous blemish balm products I have tried were almost watery, very runny, while these three are more like proper foundations.

Click on the pictures below to see larger versions. If you have any specific questions, now is the time to ask as I will test-drive all three this month.

Estée Lauder Red Coach Signature Bag

with one comment

Estée Lauder Red Coach Signature BagEstée Lauder has partnered with Coach for the first time this holiday season to offer a special treat to makeup lovers: a set that includes lots of EL beauty products and a cute Coach cosmetics bag. While this is not technically a duty-free exclusive, there is a twist to it – in domestic markets the bag is available in Gold and Platinum (depending on the department store you get it from, in true EL style – the Platinum is pictured below), but in travel-retail the bag is a striking Red (check out the picture on the right)!

I spotted the set at London Heathrow airport and had to restrain myself to avoid splurging on it. I didn’t see it at Hong Kong International airport, so the red Coach set could have limited distribution. I don’t remember exactly if the kit at the airport cost £45 (roughly $72, the UK price of the Platinum/Gold versions) or slightly less, though.

Here are the full contents of the set, which EL claims has a £95 value:

  • Golden Eye & Face Compact (New Pure Color EyeShadow in Pink Flash, Tempting Mocha and Berry Burst, plus Estée Lauder Signature Blush in Fresh Plum)
  • Two Pure Color Long Lasting Lipsticks (full-size, in Sunstone and Crystal Pink)
  • New Pure Color Gloss (in Star Pink)
  • Artist’s Eye Pencils (great for smoky eyes, in SoftSmudge Black)
  • Two Deluxe Retractable Makeup Brushes (Powder and Eyeshadow)
  • Coach Signature Cosmetic Bag
