Biotherm Travel Recharge

Biotherm Travel RechargeAny frequent traveller knows that flying – short- or long-haul – can wreak havoc on your skin, and only a lot of moisturiser can save it from the effects of cabin dryness, pressure and the recycled air on planes, not to mention jet lag and lack of sleep. With that in mind, skincare expert Biotherm (part of the L’Oréal staple of brands) created a product specifically to address these issues: Biotherm Travel Recharge, a travel-retail exclusive.

According to the company, the formula features Rhodiola rosea to “limit the impact on environmental stresses on the skin”, together with the nourishing capabilities of Himalayan pink salt, soothing mint extract and the brand’s own pure thermal plankton extract. There are two versions, For Her and For Him, but the formula is the same.

The clever thing about this product, for me, is that Biotherm tested it on the people who probably travel the most in the world: airline staff. Over two weeks,132 pilots, stewards and hostesses (72 women and 60 men) used the product daily, clocking a total of 3,000 hours in the air. And the results are impressive: 80% of women and 89% of men testing the product said the product helped the skin more effectively recuperate after a flight – no small feat for someone who spends so much time up in the air.

I had the chance to test the ladies’ version and can confirm it does help maintain the skin moisturised and healthy during and after a flight. The texture is thicker than a lotion but lighter than a cream, making it suitable for people with combination skin like me, and it is easily absorbed by the skin. And the packaging – a sturdy 30ml tube – can be carried in your hand luggage despite current liquid restrictions. All in all, a really useful addition to one’s inflight arsenal, and at £19.90 (about $30) at World Duty Free stores, it’s not too dear on the pocket either.
